Biographical Sketch: Charles Heatherly graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1964 with a degree in journalism. He served as director of the North Carolina Division of Travel and Tourism for six years. His courthouse photographs appear his book The Courthouses of North Carolina and Tales that Whisper in the Stone published by Harrison Company, Norcross, Georgia in 1988.

Collection Description: The Charles Heatherly Collection consists of 128 original color slides of North Carolina courthouses. Images of all 100 of the state's courthouses are in the collection. The photographs were made in the mid-1980s. All of the photographs are exterior views.
